Short Bio
Mariam B. Lam, PhD is Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, faculty member in Comparative Literature, and cooperating faculty member in Ethnic Studies at UC Riverside. She served as Chair/Convenor of the UC Council of Vice Chancellors for Equity and Inclusion for two terms (2018-2022), Interim Assistant Dean of Students for Ethnic and Gender Programs in 2020, Co-Chair of the HSI Task Force and Committee (2016-2022), and initiated HBCU and AANAPISI Committees for UCR. Before her administrative appointments, she served as Vice Chair of the Academic Senate (2014-2016) and an active member of the Senate Executive Council (2012-2016). She convenes a Council of 15 CDOs for the University Innovation Alliance (UIA), and is one of 21 liaisons of the Alliance of Hispanic Serving Research Universities (HSRU). She has worked on UC systemwide task forces and committees on campus safety and policing, anti-discrimination policies and processes, faculty diversification initiatives, postdoctoral diversity programs, gender recognition and lived name policy implementation, and disability inclusion. She has led compliance and climate task forces, improved academic personnel processes, and created a faculty equity advisors program to address recruitment, retention and climate challenges.
